Objective:
Contribute to the target of 20% renewable electricity generation by 2020. A feed-in tariff is to be developed for several sources of renewable energy and a renewable energy support fund to be set up to back feed-in tariff payments.
Activities:
The following activities would be undertaken:
- Subsidizing the tariffs offered by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company so that more rapid penetration of renewable energy sources could be achieved, including via private sector investment
- Establishment of RE support fund to cover the feed-in tariff payments
- Reform of regulatory framework to fit a larger renewable energy share (e.g. guaranteed network access and preferential dispatch)
- Supporting the New and Renewable Energy Agency (NREA)
- Assistance for the integration of RE into the grid
- Development of a MRV system

Mitigative capacity:
No information has been provided on mitigative capacity
Co-benefits:
Social: | Information has not been provided |
|
Economic: | Diversification of the energy system and thus increase of long term energy security, revenues generated by export of natural gas (which otherwise would have been consumed internally) |
