Objective:
The objective of the NAMA is to develop a mode for the strategic management of bioenergy in Peru.
Activities: (2016 - 2018)
The NAMA aims to provide families in rural areas with access to low cost renewable energy. At the same time, end users in cities are to be provided with a “greener” source of energy in order to achieve a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The scheme consists of six elements:
- increasing the demand for biofuels by promoting bioenergy technologies and raising awareness for this type of energy
- strengthening business initiatives with technology suppliers and retailers
- designing and implementing mechanisms for the financing of bioenergy projects\
- developing a standardization system as well as a framework for research and development
- providing technical assistance
- establishing and developing an MRV system
So far, NAMA activities conducted have:
- Organised a first sectorial roundtable with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Ministry of Environment (MINAM)
- Organised and ran technical committees on a subnational level to discuss the legal and regulatory framework
- Provided training and support for the formulation of public investment projects in the bioenergy sector
- Finalised an agreement with the second-tier development bank COFIDE boosting financial mechanisms for private sector credit generation
- Involved the development banks Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and Dutch Development Bank (FMO) in the implementation of pilot projects through their Peruvian counterparts
