    Objective:

The objective of the NAMA is to promote wind energy by removing barriers on policy, capacity and technology.

    Activities: (2016 - 2030)

    • Enhance the collaboration and the engagement of relevant ministries to development wind power development;
    • Improve the support for investment progress of wind projects.

The NAMA has two phases of implementation: 2016-2020 and 2021-2030. The target is to achieve the share of wind power around 0.7% and 2.4% of total electricity in 2020 in 2030 respectively.

    Ouputs incude:

    • Develop a policy framework to support specific to wind power development in Vietnam
    • Implement capacity building support for wind power development
    • The technical barriers are eliminated through the development of instrumentation wind energy potential proposals for supporting the development of technical infrastructure and system maintenance repair wind power technology
    • Pilot implementation a wind power project with a planned capacity of 5 MW grid connected and build MRV system for wind power development"

    • Job creation and income improvement
    • Improvement in local infrastructure (road and service system)
    Economic: * Job creation
    • Reduced expenditures in foreign currencies to import fuels for power generation
    • Reduced dependence on imported energy.
Environmental: * Improved local air quality
    • Displacement of energy generated by coal power plants

    MRV Framework:

It is advised not to establish a new monitoring system for the proposed NAMA, but to use the existing monitoring and reporting system available for CDM projects.

The total financial support for this NAMA would be approximate US$ 34 million. In particular, budget for phase 1 is estimated about 14 million, comprising 41.2%. Budget for phase 2 is estimated around US$ 20 million, accounting for 59.8%. Contribution from the government of Viet Nam is about US$ 0.3 million. Support was provided by the Facilitating Implementation and Readiness for Mitigation Project (FIRM) funded by the Danish International Development Agency through UNEP.
