NAMAs in the sector

  Country Type of action Objective
Innovative Energy Optimisation in the Steel Sector Bangladesh Not known To improve energy efficiency in the steel sector in Bangladesh
Energy Efficiency NAMA in the Garment Industry in Cambodia Cambodia Strategy/Policy The overall objective of the NAMA is to support Cambodia´s energy efficiency policy and to improve efficiency in the industrial sector and to build capacity in the field of energy efficiency. The introduction of efficient sewing, washing, drying machines and compressors will improve energy efficiency in motor driven systems and will decrease GHG emissions by reducing the use of electricity.
Clean Production Agreements in Chile Chile Project In Chile, the promotion of cleaner production is promoted and coordinated by the National Council for Clean Production (NCCP), an institution under the Ministry of Economy. One of the goals of NCCP for 2020 is to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases through its main management instrument, the Clean Production Agreement (CPA). This voluntary agreement is negotiated and signed by the representative of the industrial organization on behalf of the companies in a particular productive sector and a public administration sector.
NAMA for the domestic refrigeration sector in Colombia Colombia Strategy/Policy The objective of the NAMA is to reduce emissions from the domestic refrigeration sector by providing technical support and capacity building.
NAMA Technology Transfer in the Industrial Sector of the Cundinamarca-Bogotá Region Colombia Project The objective of the NAMA is to promote technology transfer through the development of NAMA pilot projects in the industrial sector of the Cundinamarca-Bogota region, in line with Colombia’s low carbon development strategy.
Low Carbon Climate Resilient Development Strategy in Dominica Dominica Strategy/Policy Support the implementation of the Low Carbon Climate Resilient Development Strategy
NAMAs in Cement/Co‐Processing and Waste Sector Dominican Republic Not known Enable the use of waste for co-processing in the cement sector to improve waste disposal and reduce emissions from cement production.
NAMA - Green Chillers and Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme in Indonesia Indonesia Strategy/Policy The project aims to assist the Energy Ministry in particular to create reliable enabling conditions for measures to increase efficiency in refrigeration and air-conditioning technology. A specific NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action) for energy-efficient refrigeration will be developed for Indonesia. Proposed improvements will be developed and evaluated in selected applications. Specific GHG reduction measures in the use of RAC technologies in industry and commerce will be implemented and supported by technology transfer. Pilot measures will serve as a reference for further dissemination in Indonesia.
Energy Efficiency Measures in City Hall/DPRD DKI Jakarta Office Indonesia Project This NAMA project focuses on an effort of Government of DKI Jakarta to implement energy efficiency measures in a new office building, City Hall /DPRD DKI Jakarta, in order to achieve Green Building criteria.
Cement Industry NAMA Indonesia Strategy/Policy The NAMA aims to support the companies in achieving industry targets and in applying process and technology modification. Cement industries are expected to reduce their GHG emission voluntarily by 2% in 2011-2015 and mandatorily by an additional 3% in 2016-2020.
NAMA for the industrial sector Jordan Strategy/Policy To help industrial sector identify energy and water inefficiencies, renewable energy/low carbon fuel potentials and inefficient waste management. Reduce GHG emissions of the sector by at least 1 Gg CO2 eq annually.
Implementation of Feed-in Tariff Mechanism Malaysia Strategy/Policy The objective of the NAMA is to implement a Feed-in tariff Mechanism in Malaysia.
NAMA in the Mexican chemical industry Mexico Strategy/Policy The NAMA focuses on the sub-sectors soaps and synthetic waxes. The objectives are to implement energy efficiency measures, monitor process emissions and design a low emission development strategy for this industrial sector.
Transforming construction in Mongolia using Supplementary Cementitious Materials Mongolia Strategy/Policy The objective of the proposed NAMA is to initiate the transformation of Mongolia’s construction sector towards a less carbon intensive development path through the introduction of supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) that can replace up to 70% of cement in concrete. SCM are produced by a mechanical process that consumes 90-95% less energy compared to cement manufacture. The envisaged measures consist of the establishment a 350,000 t/y SCM production facility, the design of supportive policies and management of the standardization process.
NAMA in the construction sector Mongolia Strategy/Policy The objective of the NAMA is to facilitate market transformation for energy efficiency in the construction sector.
Energy Efficient Lighting in Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Outdoors Sectors Pakistan Strategy/Policy Contribute to energy security and emission reductions through energy efficient lighting.
Cement NAMA Panama Strategy/Policy This NAMA seeks to avoid the use of coke through a programme to co-process municipal waste to produce cement.
Cement NAMA in Peru Peru Strategy/Policy The overall objective of the NAMA is to establish the enabling environment to promote low carbon development in the cement industry while raising its competitiveness at the same time.
Support to Sierra Leone Preparation of NAMA Sierra Leone Strategy/Policy The objective is to reflect the country concerns in addressing the issues of climate change and build on sectoral synergies to enable emission reduction starting 2016.
Supporting up-scaled mitigation in the cement sector Vietnam Strategy/Policy Development of cement sector data and MRV systems and design of a support scheme for cement sector mitigation actions

Feasibility studies

  Country Type of action Objective
NAMA for the sustainable use and disposal of the biomass in Mexico, turning it into renewable energy Mexico Project The NAMA has two objectives.

In the short term, the objective is:

  • Incorporation and compliance to a voluntary environmental program of the Tequila industry for the sustainable disposition of vinazas, bagasse and agave leaf, considered today as a waste.
  • Replacement of fossil fuel in the Mexican industry with renewable biofuel derived from the agave, promoting the installation and operation of biomass based cogeneration systems that use agave waste from the Tequila industry.
  • Accreditation of emissions reduction in the production of Tequila through the distinctive "Holohuella CO2" (hologram-carbon footprint) as a physical proof to adhere to the bottle.
In the long term, the NAMA will incorporate to the voluntary environmental program, other biomasses considered a waste besides the Agave.
Demand-side energy efficiency programme in industry Morocco Strategy/Policy To promote energy efficiency activities in the manufacturing sector based on specific incentives and demonstration projects.
NAMA for the construction sector in Peru Peru Strategy/Policy Reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry:
  • Achieve a a 20% reduction in GHG emissions compared to the baseline for the brick sector by 2020
  • Achieve a 10% reduction in GHG emissions in the cement sector by 2020;
  • Achieve an allocation of 5% of the Green Code budget to the 'Mi Vivienda' and 'Techo Propio' programmes, which promote home ownership.
